Section A Q1a: Research and Planning + Creativity

You should now have a comprehensive set of notes looking at BOTH your AS and A2 coursework pieces, relating these back to the 5 key concepts for section A.

For the next 2 weeks you will be using these notes to write several essays on each of the key concepts.

Part 1:

You have 20 minutes to look at the exemplar answer on the blog

What is good about this answer?
What could be improved?

Part 2:

You have 30 minutes to write a plan and answer for this question.

Describe how you developed research and planning skills for media production and evaluate how these skills contributed to creative decision making. Refer to a range of examples in your answer to show how these skills developed over time.

You may use your notes to make your plan and answer this question.

You may want to use the below essay structure as suggested by OCR:
Paragraph 1:  Should be an introduction which explains which projects you did. It can be quite short.
Paragraph 2: Should pick up the skill area and perhaps suggest something about your starting point with it- what skills did you have already and how were these illustrated. Use a detailed example.
Paragraph 3: Should talk through your use of that skill in early projects and what you learned and developed through these. Again there should be detailed examples to support all that you say.
Paragraph 4: Should go on to demonstrate how the skill developed in later projects, again backed by detailed examples, and reflecting back on how this represents a move forward for you from your earlier position.
Paragraph 5: Short conclusion

Remember it's only half an hour and you need to use examples from BOTH your AS and A2 coursework.

Part 3:

Pass your essay to another person, NOT your neighbour or friend.

You have 20 minutes to mark their essay according to the mark scheme below.

You should:

  • Give the essay a level
  • Write down 2 things they have done well
  • Write down 2 things they can improve upon
Remember the exemplar essay is a Level 3. Compare the essay to this one if you are having problems marking it.

Part 4:

You should now have feedback on your work, using this feedback make alterations to your essay working on the areas that have been picked up by your marker.

Make your alterations in a different colour pen and hand your essay in to me at the end of the lesson.
